Based on Digital Elevation Model, Digital Terrain Analysis(DTA) has become themost characteristic part of the Geographic Information System(GIS) and the analysis ofthe terrain features elements is particularly active research. It has been widely used invarious aspects of mapping, remote sensing, urban planning, military operations.Most studies are related with microscopic features rather than macro-trend featuresand the cross merging studied among them are rarely. Therefore, proceeding from bothDEM raw data and feature information based on previous work, this paper will extractthe relevant information of macro mountain lines rapidly and accurately, as well as theassistive technology of data model and assess method. The Connotation and applicationareas of digital terrain analysis will be broadened through study. Specific workinvolves:(1) Considering that the frequent access or move space location of feature lines insubsequent method of Mountain lines, as well as the grid marker-map from the initialextraction, the requirement of data accuracy and operability can’t be competent.Therefore, a vector method for the feature line tracking is designed in order to achievethe purpose of data organization and storage support mountain lines extraction process.In addition, the vector method can be used for the calibration algorithm of contour linesin the raw data from the DEM.(2) The Macro-topographical features can be obtained from theMicro-topographical features. The paper design an extraction method of mountain linesfrom ridge tagged image which proceed from both morphology and mathematics ofmountains by vector segmented thoughts, then be divided into main vein and branchvein by Routing Topology. (3) Use the MFC Application Frame by Visual C++integrated developmentenvironment to develop the software platform, including the module of mountains lineextraction and contour calibration.
