April-May2010and April-May2011, we studied spring habitat selection of black-billed capercaillie at Lingfeng Nature Reserve. At Lingfeng Nature Reserve,we made a overall survey of the distribution of black-billed capercaillie, and then selected the best to study spring habitat selection of black-billed capercaillie. During the study period,we set9lek quadrats,55quadrats of feeding and activities habitat,41Random quadrats, select20ecological factors and collecting the corresponding data.We used multivariate statistical techniques and stepwise discriminant analysis to study all the data, and then discussed the preference of habitat factor of the black-billed capercaillie. The results are as follows:Lek habitat:The most pivotal condition which decide Black-billed capercaillie’s presence in spring is Average height of arbor and senior bush density. At Lingfeng Natural Reserve Black-billed Capercaillie have certain preferences on the main factor of the spring lek habitat. The character of Black-billed capercaillie’s lek habitat is:Average height of arbor24.670±2.915(x-±SD, n=9)m; Average tree diameter at breast height20.560±2.404(x±D,n=9)cm; Arbor density5.440±1.944(x±D, n=9); Average height of senior bush125.560±33.144(x±D, n=9)cm;senior bush density2.00±0.707(x±D, n=9); senior bush cover0.06±0.05(x±SD, n=9); bottom bush mainly include Ledum palustre Linn.,Vaccinium vitis-idaea L. and Vaccinium uliginosum Linn.Feeding and activities habitat:The most pivotal condition which decide Black-billed capercaillie’s presence in spring is distance form the road, distance from the water, elevation, arbor density and aspect of slope. At Lingfeng Natural Reserve Black-billed Capercaillie have certain preferences on the main factor of the spring lek habitat. The character of Black-billed capercaillie’s feeding and activities habitat is:elevation681.04±14.56(x±SD, n=55)m; gentle slope; arbor species mainly include Larix gmelini (Rupr.) Rupr. and Betula platyphylla Suk; arbor density7.87±3.28(x±SD, n=55); senior bush density4.93±2.64(x±D, n=55); senior bush cover0.14±0.12(x±D, n=55); bottom bush mainly include Ledum palustre Linn., Vaccinium vitis-idaea L. and Vaccinium uliginosum Linn.
