Research About Black Grouse Habitat Selection In Honghuaerji Nature Reserve In Winter

We have made quantitative analysis for Black Grouse winter habitat selection by quadrat method, principle component analysis and resource selection function at Honghuaerji nature reserve from 2006 to 2009. So, we realized the habitat characters of Black Grouse and put forward some suggestions for the protection of Black Grouse in Honghuaerji. The result shows:(1) In early winter: the habitat of Black Grouse is in grassland- Scotch Pine and open grassland. The Black Grouse liked the environment where altitude was low(between 700m and 800m), gradient was blow 10°, position were down, the distance was far from village (between 8km and 12km), distance to road was above 2km. Except for these, the habitat was near by forest edge. In addition, there was a significant negative correlation between the probability of habitat selection and slope position, vegetation types, distance to village. But the probability of habitat selection was positively correlation with other factors affecting foraging and inhabiting of Black Grouse.(2) In middle winter: the habitat of Black Grouse is in Pinus sylvesfris and Rosa davurica-Pinus sylvesfris. The Black Grouse liked the environment where altitude was low(between 800m and 900m), gradient was blow 20°, position were down, the distance was far from village (above 10km), distance to road was above 1km. Except for these, the habitat was near by forest edge(blow 300m). In addition, there was a significant negative correlation between the probability of habitat selection and altitude, aspect, slope position, distance to road. But the probability of habitat selection was positively correlation with other factors affecting foraging and inhabiting of Black Grouse.(3) In late winter: the habitat of Black Grouse is in Pinus sylvesfris, Betula platyphylla-Pinus sylvesfris and Rosa davurica- Pinus sylvesfris. The Black Grouse liked the environment where altitude was low(between 800m and 900m), gradient was blow 10°, position were down, the distance was far from village (above 12km), distance to road was between 1km and 2km. Except for these, the habitat was near by forest edge(between 600m and 800m). In addition, there was a significant negative correlation between the probability of habitat selection and altitude, aspect, snow depth. But the probability of habitat selection was positively correlation with other factors affecting foraging and inhabiting of Black Grouse.
