Recently, with the continuous development of Chinese economy, the demand foriron ore resources would be higher and higher. It is particularly important tounderstand the details of the distribution and reserve of Chinese mineral resources inorder to satisfy the growing demand for iron ore resources,.Firstly, the reservesestimation methods of mineral resources including the traditional reserve calculationmethods, geostatistics methods and the inverse distance weighted method aresystematically introduced, while the introduction focuses on the inverse distanceweighted method. What’s more, the basic principle of the3D geological modeling isintroduced briefly and the application and development trend of the ore bodythree-dimensional modeling and ore reserves estimation are systematically analyzed.Panjiatian ’s vanadium-titanium magnetite mine zone is chosen as a experimentexample. Then the three-dimensional geological model is established and iron orereserve estimation is calculated and the following progresses and understandings aregot:(1) A drilling database of Panjiatian vanadium-titanium magnetite mine zone isestablished, which lay the foundation for subsequent work;(2) Based on Micromine software systems, the surface digital terrain model as well asiron ore body model is established and3D visualization of drilling, surface modeland the ore-body model are conducted in the use of the principles and methods ofthree-dimensional geological modeling and visualization;(3) Panjiatian’s iron mine reserves are estimated in the use of inverse distanceweighting method, the comparison of the estimation result and Pan Jiatian’sreserve report proves the feasiblity of the estimation method.
