The GPS technology has the excellence of all-weather, long distance, high precision of long observation and needless indivisibility between two spots in positioning,while the total station instrument technology has the excellence of being more precise, efficient and flexible in surveying of about2km area. In control survey, we often combine the GPS technology and the total station instrument technology together to make use of their advantage and obtain highly precise surveying result. If we use the method of step-by-step adjustment to deal with the union control nets of GPS and total station instrument, the precision of the whole nets will be reduced and the reality of the adjustment result will be impacted. Combined adjustment can remove the effect of initial data errors which exist in step-by-step adjustment and raise the automation of data processing. In this papers, the combined adjustment on ellipsoid of GPS and total station instrument data firstly transform the ground data to be in the ellipsoidal surface and make the GPS and total station instrument data be in the same coordinate system, then proceed the combined adjustment work to obtain the precise control surveying result; this method have the ability to deal with data in small area and large area.Firstly, this papers introduces all kinds of coordinate system, and then discusses the three ways of the union adjustment, including the three-dimensional union adjustment in the reference center coordinate system, the two-dimensional union adjustment in the gauss coordinate system, and the two-dimensional union adjustment in the ellipsoid coordinate system; and then to compare and analyze the three kinds of the union adjustment. On this basis, the author derives and determines the two-dimensional union adjustment in the ellipsoid coordinate system.For the data reduction in the ellipsoidal surface, the papers gives the way of transforming the terrestrial surveying data to be on the ellipsoid using the earth’s geopotential model in detail, then uses the earth’s geopotential model to do the data reduction and summarize the variation range and the effect rule of horizontal direction and distance reduction correction. In the combined adjustment on ellipsoid, the terrestrial data reduction and the calculation of approximate coordinate and the observation equation’s coefficient will use the geodetic theme solution problem many times. To ensure the reality of the adjustment result and improve the speed of convergence, this papers derive the mathematical formula of the highly precise geodetic theme solution problem which has the horizontal direction accuracy of0.0001s and the distance accuracy of0.01mm,and can satisfy the two-dimensional combined adjustment in the ellipsoid coordinate system.In the fourth chapter, this papers introduces the method of using the variance component estimation way to decide the reasonable weigh of the observed value.At last, according to the correlation theory, the author uses Visual C#to design and make the software of the combined adjustment, which has multiple functions and can satisfy the requests of the combined adjustment on ellipsoid of GPS and total station instrument data.This papers uses the software to deal the example and then give the analysis on the result.
