With the development of social economy, the number of security threats such as theft、robbery、arson is growing, then it has put forward more higher requirements to the security system. Under the precondition that the existing system design still cannot meet the design goal and the prevention purpose, the concept of performance-based design - the putting forward of the performance-based safety design is an inevitable trend for reducing the security threats. Through the analysis of the research status and security threats cases ago at home and abroad, referring to the performance-based fir design ideas of building, integrating system security thoughts into the security system design, designing specific issues for the protection objects, make the overall risk achieve an acceptable level of design patterns.First, referring to the performance-based fire design, combining with the usage and demand for risk prevention of the protective object, outline performance-based design of the security system flow chart preliminarily. Then, taking the "time" parameters as the standard gist of whether achieving performance-based design. According to the knowledge of criminal psychology fields and prevention theory, introducing vulnerable destructive index, and combining the severity of threats event to establish threat event risk evaluation index system. Then, doing the risk assessment for the protective goal by using the mathematical model with the method of the linear weighted. The risk classification and protective levels grading are educed at the same time. Then, with the introduction of "time" parameter to describe the preventive measures for the performance-based design of equipment to support the optimal choice. Finally, demonstrates the rationality of the design by the example analysis.
