Light hydrocarbon components of petroleum products evaporate intoatmosphere easily in the process of stockpiling and transportation and distribution, which causes energy consumption and environment pollution. Oil vapor recoverycan solve pollution problem and also can bring economic benefits. The research onoil vapor recovery abroad started in the middle of the last century, and achievedobvious effect. However, we are lagging far behind, especially in the recoveryprocess simulation. So more detailed analysis to the oil vapor recovery technologyshould be made in our country.Benefiting from the great progress of refrigeration technology in the pastthirty years, the technique of Condensation oil vapor recovery has shownenormous advantages. Because of the coMPaction and modular manufacturing andmany other merits, cascade system becomes the mainstream of this technique. Thispaper presents a study of a self-designed Condensation oil vapor recovery system, with a precooling unit. Besides, the cycle part of the system is simulating analyzed, with the application software REFPROP and the simulation software Aspen Plus. The main contents are as follows:1. The background, purpose and significance of oil vapor recovery areintroduced at the beginning. Combined with the development situation of thestockpiling and transportation process for petroleum products, the low temperaturecondensation method for oil vapor recovery, which utilizes multi-componentscascade cycle technique, is thought more economic and reliable. At last thedevelopment of oil vapor recovery technology home and abroad is introduced, andseveral application examples are listed.2. Two refrigeration cycles, cascade and auto-cascade, are put forward andintroduced in the text. Then a deep study is made on mixture cycle, including itstechnical advantages, features, thermophysical properties, selection rules andclassifications.3. A large-scale chemical process simulation software named Aspen Plus isintroduced into the refrigeration system. The information of the software and thereason for the introduction are explained. Utilizing softwares, the self-designedCondensation oil vapor recovery system is simulating analyzed. Thus the result of the steady-state operation of refrigeration system, and a series of thermodynamicparameters are obtained.4. With the simulating operation of the system, a Sensitivity Analysis of therefrigeration system is made by the optimization and analysis tools in Aspen Plus. Then the compressor performance change with the non-azeotropic mixedrefrigerant ratio is throughly tested. Besides, the system performance and thecondensation characteristics of the oil vapor are analyzed and optimized. Theseefforts provide the theoretical foundation for the selection of the parameters, whichare critical to the design of the system.
