5052aluminum alloy is one of the most widely used products in the5xxx aluminum alloy. That is widely used in the industry of automobile, machine, aerospace, shipping, electronic and so on. At present,5052aluminum alloy sheet is only produced by the method of casting and rolling. That has disadvantages of long process flow, big equipment investment and high production cost. The most economic method of aluminum alloy is continuous roll-casting. That has advantages of energy conservation, environmental protection, small investment and low production cost.In this paper,5052aluminum alloy sheets were fabricated under the condition of electromagnetic field. The solidification feature of roll-casting zone of5052aluminum alloy was analyzed. The effect of static magnetic field and electromagnetic oscillation on microstructures of roll-casting zone was researched. The effect of static magnetic field and electromagnetic oscillation on microstructures of sheet and mechanical properties was analyzed. A series of results were obtained as follows:(1) Static magnetic field and oscillating field refined the microstructures of roll-casting zone of5052aluminum alloy. Grain growth had certain directivity under the condition of static magnetic field. But grain growth had no directivity under the condition of oscillating field.(2) Under the condition of static magnetic field, edge and center microstructures of roll-casting zone were refined, but grains uneven. Obtained under the condition of electromagnetic oscillation, center microstructures were equiaxed grain and grains were interrupted at the side of two-phase zone and informed zone meanwhile many small grains distributed surrounding the dendrite grains.(3) Static magnetic field and oscillating field refined the microstructures of5052aluminum alloy sheet. The refinement effect of static magnetic field was more noticeable, but grains uneven. Under the electromagnetic oscillation, the size of grain was even and grains tended to equiaxed grain.(4)5052aluminum alloy sheets had center segregation band. Under the static magnetic field, center segregation band narrowed and some places appeared threadlike. Under electromagnetic oscillation, center segregation band was virtually eliminated.(5) Electromagnetic roll-casting helped improve grain content of5052aluminum alloy elements. The lowest intragranular content of Mg was0.99%under common roll-casting.1.55%under static magnetic field roll-casting,2.14%under electromagnetic oscillation roll-casting.(6) Electromagnetic roll-casting helped increase the mechanical properties of5052aluminum alloy sheet. The tensile strength of sheet was207MPa under common roll-casting,215MPa under static magnetic field roll-casting,235MPa under electromagnetic oscillation roll-casting. Compared with common roll-casting, static magnetic field roll-casting and oscillating field roll-casting had no effect on elongation which all reached about25%.
