Heat recovery coke oven will burn the gas from briquette inside the oven, therefore it can be identified as clean and green. Burning process inside the coke coven is a very complex reaction that relates to both physical and chemical process, as well as the flow, mass transfer, heat transfer and chemical reaction and interaction of fluid. In early time, investigation on coke coven was mostly base on experimental methods and empirical data.By the development of computational fluid dynamics and computational combustion, commercial CFD software has been widely applied on such fields, now researchers are capable to do numerical simulation on coke coven, which help out to predict and analyze the problems from coke coven during its running, other than old experimental ways.Target of this article is a heat recovery coke oven from factory, due to the flaws from both designment and manipulation, problems were found during its running. Burning rate of briquettes was found to exceed the design value, however shutting down for maintenance will cost too much on economic benefits, thus, we would like to analyze the reason with numerical simulation method, by modeling the coke oven numerically.Before the model is built, certain assumptions were made to allow the CFD program to process. Standard k-s model has been applied to simulate the turbulent flow of gas of inner coven; standard wall function has been applied to the surface of coven; general finite rate model has been applied to simulate gas transportation; model P1has been applied to simulate radiation heat transfer inside the coven; eddy dissipation model has been applied to simulate the gas combustion chemical reaction; porous media model has been applied to simulate solid phase briquette; gas from the briquette has been coded with UDS, then add to porous media model.Hereby we numerically simulate the coke coven in CFD program, and then shall we obtain the gas velocity vector, gas and solid phase temperature distribution and concentration distribution of various gases inside the coven. Analysis on all above parameters has been finished. At last, this article made the assumption that O2on the surface of briquette will react with briquette completely, and this is the main reason of the briquette lost. Thus, this article hereby take average molar fraction of O2on briquette surface to stand for burning lost rate of briquette, finally we got:by the decreasing of inlet flow, the increasing of inlet diameter, the rising of inlet air temperature, increasing of coven height, the burning last rate of briquette will decrease.
