Recently extensive interest has been focused upon the Main Groupchalcogenidometalates due to their promising photoconductivity, photoluminescenceand nonlinear optical properties. The solvothermal reaction is becoming a versatile routeto the chalcogenidometalates. In this thesis, the solvothermal synthetic systems Ge/S(orSe) and Sn/S(orSe) were investigated in the presence of transition metals orlanthanide metals in ethylene polyamine solutions. The chalcogenidogermanates andchalcogenidostannates complexes containing transition metal or lanthanide metalcomplexes were prepared under solvothermal conditions. We also investigated theinfluence of ethylene polyamine and lanthanide metal ions on thechalcogenidogermanates and chalcogenidostannates. In this work, the major studies areas follows:1. The chalcogenidogermanates [Ni(trien)2]2Ge4S10(1) and [{Ni(tepa)}2(μ-Ge2S6)](2) were synthesized by solvothermal method in trien and tepa solvent. The influence ofethylene polyamine on the chalcogenidogermanates was investigated.2. The lanthanide-contained chalcogenidogermanates [{Ho(en)3}2(μ-OH)2]Ge2Se6(3),[{Eu(en)3}2(μ-OH)2]Ge2Se6(4) and [{Ho(dien)2}2(μ-OH)2]Ge2Se6(5) weresynthesized by solvothermal method in en and dien solvent the first time.3. The neutral lanthanide-contained chalcogenidogermanates[{Dy(tepa)(μ-OH)}2(μ-Ge2Se8)]n(6) and [{Gd(tepa)(μ-OH)}2(μ-Ge2Se8)]n(7) weresynthesized by solvothermal method in tepa solvent. The influence of ethylenepolyamine on the chalcogenidogermanates was investigated.4.The lanthanide-contained chalcogenidostannates [{Ce(en)4}2(μ-Se2)]Sn2Se6(8)and [{Ln(en)3}2(μ-OH)2]Sn2Se6(Ln=Pr(9), Nd(10), Gd(11),Eu(12)) were synthesizedby solvothermal method in en solvent. the influence of lanthanide metal ions on the chalcogenidostannates was investigated.5.The chalcogenidometalates were characterized by elemental analysis, IR,opticalproperties and X-ray crystallographic.
