The quality security of agricultural products has become aworld-wide serious problem due to the increasing environmental deteriorations.Among the environmental factors of agricultural products, the conditions of the air, water, soil etc can impact significantly to the quality of the agricultural products;especially the heavy metal pollution has greater impact on the agricultural productsquality due to its universality, concealment, lag etc. It is thus becoming one of themost serious issues with which we are facing. This paper established an ArcGISServer and Database-based soil heavy metal information system. The soil heavy metalinformation system can be used to manage heavy metal content data in soil efficiently.By means of spatial presentation as well as analysis, the heavy metal pollutions in soilcan be monitored and evaluated within this system. This system can provide technicalsupports for the decision making and management of the heavy metal pollution.A B/S (browser/server) architecture is used in this system. This system containsthree layers, including data layer, service layer and presentation layer. The data layercontains the basic data of production environment and the sampled data of heavymetal percentage, set up a geodatabase Data Model, manage spatial data andnon-spatial data with ArcSDE9.3and Oracle11g, respectively. The application layeris based on ArcGIS Server and J2EE technology, the web module in application layeris implemented by Struts2, and system web service is published with the aid of Axis2.Application logic module and basic functionality module in application layer isimplemented using Java, while modules related to spatial service configuration, spatial data manipulation and analysis is constructed using ArcGIS Server APIs. Thespatial service layer is based on ArcGIS Server9.3, providing spatial service andspatial data manipulation. The Flex Builder is used to construct presentation layer, and the client server communication is based on BlazeDS. To preserve the farmlandinformation and sampled data copyright of the system users, this system hasemployed a three-layer user structure, as well as a strict privilege managementstrategy. At last realize soil heavy metal information system with basic function, suchas map operation, Sampling point query analysis, dynamic thematic maps creating and spatial interpolation analysis; With this system, the soil heavy metal data could bemanaged, presented and analyzed easily, the potential value of the data could bediscovered, so that they can be used in the management and decision making inagricultural environment protection.
