This paper gives a comprehensive review on the technology about the synthesis of tert-butyl acetate. An analytical method for the esterified product system was firstly established. The thermodynamics of the reactions involved in the synthesis of t-butyl acetate(TBA). The results show that acid-olefin esterification reaction and side reactions influence each other, and a low temperature is conducive to the main reaction.In this study, acetic acid and isobutylene were used as raw materials, and the effects of ion exchange resin A, B, and A15and perfluorinated sulfonic acid resin FSR-090312on esterification were studied under different temperatures. The results show that catalyst B and A15had better esterification than that of other two catalysts. And then A15was selected to further research. The effects of temperature, reaction time, pressure, space velocity, acetic acid to isobutylene molar ratio on esterification over catalyst A15were studied. The results show that the suitable reaction conditions are temperature17to20℃, reaction time80to190min, pressure0.8to1.2MPa, space velocity3to5h-’, a molar ratio of acid to olefin (4to5):1. The effects of water and tert-butanol added in acetic acid respectively were investigated the results show that a small amount of water or tert-butanol added to acetic acid can improve the selectivity of the t-butyl acetate, and inhibit the production of isobutylene oligomers. And the method of adding t-butanol to acetic acid is superior to the method of adding water on esterification. A suitable dosage of t-butanol added to acetic acid is6%, as a result the selectivity of tert-butyl acetate can reach over95%and the selectivity of isobutylene oligomer can be controlled under4.5%; Moreover, anhydride-alcohol method and acid-alcohol method to synthesize TBA were studied, the comparison of the three methods showes that synthesis of TBA with acetic acid and isobutylene has a good application prospect.
