With Octylphenol ethoxylate(10) ester, itaconic acid, sodium sulfite and concentratedsulfuric acid as the raw materials, a new type of sodium Octylphenol ethoxylate(10)sulfoitaconate ester surfactants, namely disodium Octylphenol ethoxylate(10)sulfoitaconate monoester (DOE(10)SIM) and sodium Octylphenol ethoxylate(10)sulfoitaconate diester (SOE(10)SID), were synthesized through the esterification andsulfonation reactions.The influence of the reaction temperature, reaction time, molar ratios of the materialsand the dosage of analyst on the conversion were studied comprehensively. Therefore, theDOE(10)SIM optimum synthesis conditions were determined: n(OPEO(10)):n(IA) were1:1.04, n(IA):n(Na2SO3) were1:1.05, esterification reaction temperature was110℃for4h and sulfonating reaction was90℃for4h. the SOE(10)SID optimum synthesisconditions were determined: n(OPEO(10)):n(IA) were3:1, n(IA):n(Na2SO3) were1:1.06,esterification reaction temperature was130℃for4h and sulfonating reaction was90℃for4h. A stable Styrene-Acrylic Emulsion was got with the dosage of emulsifier reducedby20%when the traditional emulsifier was replaced by new productDOE(10)SIM.Comparing with the OPEO(10), the surface tension, critical micelleconcentration, emulsification power and dispersing power of the new type of anionsurfactants were investigated.The chemical structures of the prepared surfactants were confirmed by FTIR and1HNMR. The results indicated that: under the optimum conditions, DOE(10)SIM had lowsurface tension and the lowest critical micelle concentration. Its γ-6CMCwas34.48mN/mand cmc was3.55×10mol/L. While, the γCMCand cmc of the SOE(10)SID were36.90mN/m and5.79×10-5mol/L, respectively; The emulsification power of SOE(10)SID wasbetter than that of DOE(10)SIM. Compared with OPEO(10), both of them had ordinarydispersing power.
