In the field of high-speed machining, special type of end-mill with variable groove depth, variable pitch angle or variable helix angle, has a good advantage in the aspect of suppressing chatter and heat dissipation, which is occurring in the process of high-speed machining. So it is more widely used in the fields of mould making, aeronautics and astronautics, precision machining parts etc. Researching the design theory of end-mill combined with advanced digital design technology, and then establishing a computer aided design system of special type of end-mill, will reduce design cost, shorten design cycle and improve the quality of products. At the same time, it will drive CAD/CAE/CAM integrated technology of tool forward.Analyzing structure characteristics of special type of end-mill combining with end-mill design theory, is to establish mathematical equations of geometric structure of end-mill, such as, establishing mathematical model of the blank body, establishing mathematical model of the tool edge line (like helix edge line, S-shaped edge line, straight edge line etc) and establishing mathematical model of spiral groove section of cylinder-tooth.Various types of data required in the process of end-mill modeling, will be obtained from text, where data of end-mill is stored. This way will separate the process of system handling end-mill data from the process of system generating end-mill solid model, which is useful for establishing a universal method of end-mill solid modeling, and adding many new and different structure of end-mill, but not adding new methods of end-mill solid modeling. So the paper studies and analyzes inner organization and management structure of text, and then further defines detailed storage format of all kinds of end-mill data in the text.Based on the classification to modeling method of various types of end-mill feature, establish a universal method of3D parametric solid modeling for the blank body of end-mill, and then establish a universal method of3D parametric solid modeling for tooth features of end-mill by using the modeling method of Muti-sections Solid Definition in the CAT1A V5, and finally establish a method of3D parametric solid modeling for other auxiliary features of end-mill. At the same time, on the basis of the3D parametric modeling system of end-mill, the paper designs intelligent generation system of end-mill2D drawing, the system can add and modify feature view easily in order to meet the expression demand of various tool structure features, finally the paper further clarifies relevant content about sytem overall organizational framework of end-mill2D drawing,3D view creation and projection, and operation principle of view in the drawing.According to the above research results, based on the CATIA V5application platform and in the CATIA V5CAA-Rade development environment, using technology of CATIA V5CAA designs and develops a3D parametric modeling system of special type end-mill, and a intelligent generation system of special type end-mill2D drawing.
