As a new-type, reliable, practical FACTS equipment, the appearance of magnetic controllable reactor provide a new technical method for EHV and UHV in the field of voltage control and reactive power regulation. It can make dynamic voltage stability, realize dynamic reactive power continuous adjustment, improve the safty and stability operation level of power system, suppress secondary arc current, reduce recovery voltage, improve the success rate of reclosing, and also have good economic and social benefits. In this paper, firstly, the basic theories, operation characteristics and mathematical model of magnetic controllable reactor are studied completely. Mathematical model has found based on Kirchhoff laws and ampere circuit theorem.Secondly, due to harmonic problems of MCR, the theory of suppress harmonic by the shift-phase reactor and by multistage saturation limb structure are picked up, and mathematical expression of the harmonic have derivated to show distribution of harmonic. Analyzed the results and compare the distribution of MCR with single-stage, harmonic suppression effect is obvious. Experimental verification is done between MCR with single-stage and four-stage. The results show that core structure with four-stage can suppress the harmonic current efficiently. At the end, considering the power loss is too big, analyed the reson of loss, found that loss causes by DC field current is high. So I gave a method to reduce the loss by change arrangement of coil. This will change DC magnetic flux of phase B with opposite direction to phase A and C. The theory and simuliation by using ANSYS of reduce loss is also discussed. The result proves that it can reduce the loss of MCR, satisfied the project needs.
