With the rapid and steady development of national economy, construction oflarge-scale open mine is in the ascendant, and demand of heavy mining dump truckswhich used as the main means of transport, also is in the rapidly growing. In recentyears, the research on driving stability of dump truck becomes more and moreimportant as the reason of demands for its larger load mass and higher reliability. As the constraint for objective reasons, vehicle road test condition is difficult toachieve for the domestic manufactures. Based on multi-body system dynamics theory, virtual prototyping and virtual testing technology are widely used in the process ofdump truck’s design and development, and using vehicle system dynamic simulationmodel to study the dump truck’s driving stability, has become an important toolwhile studying the dump truck’s movement characteristics in the future. The mining dump truck driving stability theory is firstly studied in this paper, and the main factors which impact dump truck driving stability are analyzed. Thendump truck driving stability is calculated and checked, and a dynamic simulationmodel is established to simulate and analyze its handling stability and brakingstability. At last optimization is made to improve the driving stability of the dumptruck with the front wheel alignment being used as the breakthrough point. The maincontents are as follows:1. The theory of computation for vehicle driving stability is studied in the thesis, and after analyzing the mathematical modeling approach of vehicle dynamics system, the thesis establishes a linear two DOF movement model for dump truck to study theyaw and lateral motion characteristics in the moving process of dump truck.2. Using of yaw movement mechanical model of dump truck, the thesis derivesstable driving conditions of the vehicle and analyzes its steady-state response, whichindicates the full vehicle has some under-steer characteristics.3. Rolling characteristics and braking directional stability of dump truck arestudied and main factors which influence the dump truck driving stability areexplored.4. Driving stability of the dump truck is calculated and checked. Full vehicledynamics model is established in ADAMS, and on the basis of the national standardQC/T480-1999, pylon course test, steering return test and steady-state rotation test are carried out in the thesis, and the results show that the vehicle has someunder-steer characteristics, which means the overall handling and stability basicallymeet the requirements. According to ISO3450-1996standard, four typical brakingconditions of dump truck which encounters in physical condition are simulated, showing that the vehicle’s braking stability is good.5. Optimization is made to improve the driving stability of the dump truck withthe front wheel alignment being used as the breakthrough point.
