Ocimum basilicum L., one of the common medicines plants in China, are widely used in indigestion, enteritis, diarrhea, blood stasis and so on. Upon until now, however, most researches are focused on medicine aspects, while fewer reports are focused on their employment on antimicrobial and insecticidal activity. In the present study, we first determined the flavonoids composition of Ocimum basilicum L. and investigated the antimicrobial and insecticidal activity. The dissertation includes four main chapters:1. The chemical constituents of the extract of Ocimum basilicum L. have been pretested systematically by means of thin layer chromatography (TLC). The main ingredients are flavonoids, coumarins, essential oils, steroid terpenoids, few amino acids and carbonhydrates.2. The experiment chose four factors:the temperature of water-bathing recirulation (A), the ethyl alcohol density (B), the material ratio (C) and the time (D), and discovers their influence in withdrawing the total flavanone. The optimum condition is60%ethyl solution, by (1:12) the material fluid compares under80℃conditions withdraws2hours and extracting2times.3. Using the growth method measures the antibacterial and antifungal activities of the total flavanone extraction from Ocimum basilicum L. against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Sarcina lutea, Streptomyces griseus, Staphyloccocus aureus, Aspergillus oryzae, Monascus purpureus, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, Penicillium citrinum and Botrytis cinerea. The antibacterial and antifungal activity of Monascus purpureus and Aspergillus niger is the higher.4. Results on the insecticidal activity of the total flavanone extraction of Ocimum basilicum L. showed that the extraction can significantly affect the larva survival rate, development duration and average weight, and fecundity and eggs hatching of of Helicoverpa armigera Huber. The study would have vital significance to serve for the agricultural production.
