Objective: To study the value of MRI in staging of cervical carcinoma.Materials and Methods:81patients enrolled in this trial all came from thein-patients with cervical carcinoma of the Xi jing hospital during January2010and2011, the age from25to69(medium age,45). All were confirmed by biopsy.Tumor stage and the probability of surgery were determined by2experiencedGynecologist. Patients operated directly or who have opportunity for surgeryafter radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy underwent pelvic MRI within one weekbefore treatment. All patients underwent operation. The result of clinical stageingand MRI staging was compared with postoperative pathologic report,respectively.Results:81patients were included in this study. Sensitivity and specificity ofMRI in the diagnosis of parametrial and deep stromal invasion, vaginal invasionand lymph node metastasis (on a patient-by-patient basis) was100%and93.05%,96.67%and77.27%,63.64%and90.06%,66.67%and98.41%, respectively. Theaccurary of MRI in the staging by FIGO criteria was75%, the accuracy in thestaging of clinical was40.38%.The staging accuracy was significantly different between two groups. Conclusions: MRI shows relatively high accuracy in evaluation of theparametrial and deep stromal invasion, vaginal invasion and lymph nodemetastasis.Compare with the result of clinical, MRI has a higher accuracy ofstaging. MRI is suitable to evaluate the extent of cervical carcinoma beforetreatment, and it can offer objective information for the diagnosis and treatment.
