Objective:To observe serum homocysteine (Hcy), folate and vitamin B12levels in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and acute cerebral infarction (ACI), to investigate the difference in correlation of Hcy with AMI and ACI, and the correlation of Hcy level with folate and vitamin B,2.Methods:Randomly select60patients with acute myocardial infarction,72patients with acute cerebral infarction and60healthy controls from the second affiliated hospital of Shanxi medical university during the period from October2010to October2011. The AMI group excludes patients with cerebrovascular disease, diabetes, liver and kidney diseases, hematologic diseases and malignant tumors. The ACI group excludes patients with coronary heart disease, diabetes, liver and kidney diseases, hematologic diseases and malignant tumors. The control group excludes patients with hypertension, cardiocerebral vascular diseases, diabetes, liver and kidney diseases, hematologic diseases and malignant tumors. All the people deny a taking history of folate or B vitamins. Hcy, folate and vitamin B12levels are measured and compared among the three groups. Logistic regression and correlation are also analyzed.Results:1. The Hcy level in AMI group is significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.05), while the folate and vitamin B12levels are lower (P<0.05). The Hcy level in ACI group is significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.05), while the folate and vitamin B12levels are lower(P<0.05). The difference of Hcy, folate and vitamin B12levels between AMI group and ACI group is not found (P>0.05)2. Hyperhomocysteinemia is the risk factor of AMI (OR=1.253,95%CI:1.138-1.380) and ACI (OR=1.317,95%CI:1.182-1.467). Hey correlates stronger with ACI (P=0.275in ACI group vs0.226in AMI group).3. Hey correlates negatively with folate and vitamin B12(P<0.01)Conclusion:1. Serum Hey level is higher in patients with acute myocardial infarction and acute cerebral infarction, while the folate and vitamin B12levels are lower.2. Hyperhomocysteinemia is the risk factor of acute cardiocerebral vascular diseases. Hey correlates stronger with ACI. 3. Hyperhomocysteinemia correlates with the insufficiency of folate and vitamin B12. Treatment with folate and B vitamins could reduce acute cardiocerebral vascular affairs by lowering serum Hcy level.
