Objective:To study the correlation between sperm DNA fragmentation index (DFI) and some factors including age of male, semen parameters, fertilization rate, high quality embryo rate, clinical pregnancy rate and implantation rate.Methods:111infertile couples underwent IVF were included in the study. Sperm DFI was tested by flow cytometry. The patients were divided into different groups according to their DFI scores. Results:The IVF normal fertilization rate was significantly lower in couples with sperm DFI greater than10%(60.5%) compared with that in couples with DFI less than10%(70.1%)(P<0.05). Significant positive correlation was found between DFI and male’s age (r=0.624,P<0.05). DFI was also significantly negatively correlated with the percentage of linearly progressive sperm (r=-0.360, P<0.05). There was no significant correlations between the rates of high quality cleaved embryos, pregnancy and implantation rate and sperm DFI.Conclusion:DFI scores increased with male’s aging, and it will influence the sperm motility. We suggest that DFI=10is a critical point which can be used to estimate the clinical fertility rate of IVF.
