Object iveThe treatment of Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease (LCPD) is controversial and not well defined. This study aimed to observe the clinical results of the conservative therapy to support the effectiveness of conservative LCPD treatment in chinese medicine.MethodsThe children who were diagnosed the Perthes disease in the First Affiliated Hospital of the Guang Zhou University of Chinese Medicine were collected from December2009to April2012as the member of the retrospective study. There were two groups in this study, they were control group which were just rest and tonifying the kidney and activating blood circulation chinese medicine with the outreaching fixed group. The two groups were followed at least two years, then the World Health Organization (WHO) pain grading system, Stulberg classification, Mose circle criteria and Clinical symptoms of the two groups were evaluated to check if they had difference between them.ResultsThere were32males and6females in test group, their average age was7.80±2.274years. And it had10males and5females in control group, their average age was6.87±2.133years. There was no significant difference between these two group on gender, age, and by statistical analysis (P>0.05), and these two groups were comparable. Both the two groups had the significant difference (P<0.001) in the treatment of the Perthes disease. The two groups had significant difference (P<0.001)in the Mose circle criteria, the test group had the better results than the control group, it had10excellent hips,23 good hips and6bad hips. In the control group there were6good hips and10bad hips. There were difference(P<0.05) between the two groups in the Stulberg classification. The control group had32hips in the class Ⅰ and Ⅱ,5hips in the class III and2hips in the class IV. The test group had7hips in the class I and II,6hips in the class Ⅲ and3hips in the class IV.The whole effect assessment was evaluated by the Clinical symptoms, and the result showed that the two groups had the difference(P<0.05) in the good rate and the test group had the better good rate which was76.92%. But when the two groups in the same Caterall classification, only the type IV had no difference in the Clinical symptoms between the two groups. It revealed that the test group had the better results in the treatment of the Perthes disease which in the Caterall II or III.ConclusionTonifying the kidney and activating blood circulation chinese medicine with the outreaching fixed treatment had better results in the femoral had shape, femoral head and actebular matching and clinical results than the control group in the treatment of the perthes disease.
