ObjectivesTo explore the clinical therapeutic effect on curing the vascular cognitive impairment with no dementia patients by using the Electro-acupuncture, it is important and practical in approaching a new cuarative method clinically which is safe, easily operated and definitely effected.MethodsRandomized controlled trial was adopted and sixty patients with the vascular cognitive impairment with no dementia were divided into a treatment group and a control group, thirty cases in each group. The basic treatment of cerebrovascular disease was applied in two groups. The control group received oral administration of Nimodipine tablets while the treatment group was treated with Electro-acupuncture mainly at baihui(GV20),shenting (GV24),taixi (KI3),shenmen(HT7).The electro-acupuncture treatment was given five times a week. Both of them were taking four weeks as a course of treatment. A comparison was made between pretreatment and posttreatment and between the two groups by using neuropsychological scales-MMSE and MoCA to evaluate the therapeutic effect.Results1.After the therapy, the treatment group had a total effective rate of66.66%, and9cases were significantly improved,11cases were improved,10case had no effect,no case to deteriorate. The control group had a total effect rate of53.33%, and5cases were significantly improved,9cases were improved,16cases had no effect,no case to deteriorate..The results in two groups had no significant difference.(P>0.05)2.Before treatment, there were no statistical significant differences in the grade of the estimating table of MMSE and MoCA between the two groups(P>0.05). After treatment, results Neuropsychological scales-MMSE and MoCA scores were higher after treatment than before in both groups. MMSE and MoCA scores improved more in the treatment group than in the control group which had a significant difference (P<0.05)ConclusionElectro-acupuncture has a special advantage in improving cognitive function in patients with the vascular cognitive impairment with no dementia and more effective than Nimodipine alone in the control group. It is a practical and safe treatment.
