BackgroundCerebral microbleeds(CMBs), white matter lesions(WMLs) and lacunar infarcts (LI), resulting from cerebral small vessel diseases (SVD), are often detected on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the elderly. A significant proportion of these lesions are clinically silent. Several studies have shown that the lesions are associated with many cardiovascular risk factors, such as hypertension, aging, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, ect. Some domestic researches have shown that syndrome differentiation of ischemic stroke including six major elements of syndrome, such as Wind syndrome, Fire syndrome, Phlegm syndrome, Qi deficiency syndrome, Blood stasis syndrome, Yin deficiency syndrome. In this study, we are tend to find the distribution features of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) syndrome. Meanwhile, we try to be aware of the correlation between TCM syndromes and risk factors in SVD related to acute ischemic stroke. ObjectiveTo study the distribution features of TCM syndromes in SVD related to acute ischemic stroke. To investigate the correlation between TCM syndromes and risk factors on those people.MethodsWe performed a retrospective cross-sectional study using MRI to determine the relationships between risk factors and TCM syndromes in patients diagnosed with SVD related to acute ischemic stroke. A total of250subjects are from Guangdong Provincial Hospital of of neurology, rehabilitation, cardiology inpatient departments during July16th2009to May31st2010. Collect the clinical datum, risk factors and TCM syndrome performance of the patients who underwent brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) diagnosed with SVD related to acute ischemic stroke. Use the χ2test, one-way ANOVA, the frequency distribution of the number analysis, association rules to analyze the risk factors and the distribution features of TCM syndromes among the subjects.Resultsa. The effect of risk factors among different groups:There was no signifficant difference among the groups by using the χ2test and one-way ANOVA.b. The distribution of TCM syndromes:According to the features of frequency analysis, six major elements of syndrome of proportion from high to low are arranged as:Phlegm syndrome, Blood stasis syndrome, Wind syndrome, Fire syndrome, Yin deficiency syndrome, Qi deficiency syndrome. Phlegm syndrome, Blood stasis syndrome mainly accounted for a larger proportion of77.6%,71.6%, respectively. Yin deficiency syndrome accounted for the minimum proportion of13.2%. In addition, the combination of syndromes is common.c. The correlation analysis between risk factors and TCM Syndromes:Hypertension associated with Yin deficiency syndrome, patients younger than75years associated with Yin deficiency syndrome and males associated with Yin deficiency syndrome or Qi deficiency syndrome are shown as result by using algorithm Apriori of association rules.ConelusionThere was no signifficant difference among different groups of risk factors. Phlegm syndrome, Blood stasis syndrome, Wind syndrome mainly accounted for a larger proportion. The combination of syndromes is common. Hypertension is associated with Yin deficiency syndrome. Patients younger than75years are associated with Yin deficiency syndrome. In addition, males are associated with Yin deficiency syndrome or Qi deficiency syndrome.
