Objective:To evaluate the temperament characteristics and social behavior problems of the infants and toddlers with congenital cleft lip and palate in Hunan province, and to provide evidence for improving the mental health of those children in clinic.Methods:230infants and toddlers with congenital cleft lip and palate (investigated group) and437normal ones (control group) aged from5to36month were selected randomly and assessed with Revised Infant Temperament Questionnaire (RITQ) and Toddler Temperament Scale (TTS); and95of investigated group aged from2to3year were selected and assessed with Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) in Xiangya hospital. All information was statistic and analysis.Results:(1) There was no temperament type difference between investigated group and control. However, Eight temperament dimensions (including active, intense, rhythmicity, approach, adapt, mood, persistence and distractible. P<0.05) of investigated group were observed different from control group aged from5to11month; Five dimensions(less intense and distractible, more rhythmicity, approach, mood and persistence. P<0.05) in toddlers aged from12to23month; and seven dimensions (less intense and threshold, more active, rhythmicity, adapt, mood, persistence and distractible. P<0.05) in24to36month old toddlers.(2) No gender difference was observed among the investigated toddlers with congenital cleft lip and palate. However, the investigated group got lower scores in element of aggressiveness and higher scores in elements of social withdrawal, depression, sleep, body made, damage behavior (P<0.05).Conclusions:More temperament disorders and social behavior problems exist in infants and toddlers with congenital cleft lip and palate, and it was necessary to treat them effectively and actively.
