2-((5E)-5-(4-((E)-3-(2,4-Dichlorophenyl)-3-oxoprop-l-enyl)benzylidene)-4-oxo-2-thioxothi azolidin-3-yl)acetic acid as the lead compound, we designed and synthesized two types of compounds containing rhodanine-3-acetic acid structure. All the synthesized compounds have been investigated for their in vitro antimicrobial activities. The results demonstrated that many compounds presented good antimicrobial activities against Gram positive bacteria, including the multidrug-resistant clinical isolates. Among which the derivatives3k with MIC of2μg/mL was as active as the positive control norfloxacin, less active than oxacillin. But two types of compounds showed no activity against Gram-negative strains Escherichia coli CCARM1356at64μg/mL. All the compounds synthesized were confirmed by IR,1H-NMR, MS.
