Objective:Constipation is one of the most common chronic digestive tract diseases, which is mainly manifested as defecating for no more than three times a week. With constipation stools are usually hard, dry, small in size and difficult to eliminate, some people who are constipated find it painful to have a bowel movement and often experience straining, bloating, and the sensation of a full bowel. With the aging of society and the change of people’s life pace and diet, constipation is becoming one of the diseases that influence the life of people, especially the life of the old people. What’ s more, constipation may trigger or aggravate existing diseases of the old people with cardiovascular and cerebral diseases and lead to serious complications of intestinal diseases. Its treatment has been a clinical difficulty, and the incidence is increasing year by year. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, constipation is divided into empirical and deficiency syndrome. Elderly patients with chronic constipation are usually of deficiency syndrome. TCM treatment based on syndrome differentiation takes a long time and has poor effect, while Laxatives are usually used in Western medicine treatment, but they are for symptomatic treatment and have more side effects. Long-term using of i t may lead to drug dependence constipation. So this essay probes into the feasibility and superiority of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment for constipation, comparing the clinical curative effect of integrated Chinese and Western medicine treatment and Western medicine treatment alone in treating elderly patients with chronic constipation.Method:Choose80elderly constipation patients with Qi deficiency according to Chinese medicine and Western medicine diagnosing standard, then divide them randomly into40cases as the treatment group and the rest as the control group. According to statistical analysis, the two groups have no significant differences (P<0.05) and of comparability. The treatment groups are treated with Buzhong Yiqi Decoction combined with mosapride treatment, and the control group only with mosapride treatment. The treatment for the two groups of patients both takes four weeks as a course. According to clinical symptom evaluating criteria of TCM, two groups of patients are given an evaluation of primary and secondary clinical symptom before and after treatment. Then compare the total curative effect of the two groups according to the evaluation results. Results:The score of the patients of the treatment group is better than the control group in before and after treatment of primary and secondary clinical symptom(P<0.05). The treatme-nt group is better than control group in total efficience, and this difference is statistically significant(P<0.05). In the treatm-ent group:16cases recovered,effectual12cases, improved7cases, ineffective in5cases.The total efficiency of87.5%. For the control group:cured6cases,markedly effective in10cases, im- proved15cases,8cases invalid. The total efficiency of77.5%.Conelusion:The curative effect of combining Chinese and western medicine treatment is better than western medicine in treatment of constipation of elderly people. The causes of the chronic constipation of the old people are complex and various, and the treatment is difficult. With "overall concept" for the principle Chinese medicine not only improve the clinical symptoms but also the main body regulate visceral functions. It can make up for shortcomings in western medicine when it cure the disease. So combining Chinese and western medicine treatment is one of effective means in treatment of the chronic constipation of the old people.
