Objective:Bletilla striata microspheres(BS-MS) were established on the methodof emulsion-condensation-chemical crosslinking.To observe the arterialangiographic images and pathological changes caused by polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)particals and bletilla striata microspheres after renal arterialembolization.To research the effect and safety that bletilla striatamicrospheres can be as a new endovascular embolic agent. Methods:72rabbitswere divided in to experimental group and control group equally.All animalsunderwent arterial catheterization of the right kidney that were embolized bybletilla striata microspheres in experimental group while PVA in control group.All animals were samplied for liver function and kidney function before embolization. Theanimals in the two groups were underwent digital subtraction angiography(DSA)either1day、3days、7days、14days、21days、28days、42days、56days、or84days after embolization.Four animals were done each time per group.Liverfunction and kidney function were checked before embolization.The animals weresacrificed after DSA.The kidneys and the lungs were dyed with hematoxylin-eosinand Masson’s trichrome and then examind using optical microscopy. To observethe reaction of vascular lumen and pathological changes surrounded. Comparingthe differences of vascular occlusion and formation of collateral circulationafter two kinds of treatment. Results: Two group animals had the similartendency in liver function and kidney function.In experimental group, there wereno collectal arteries and recanalization after embolization.The samples of right renal arteries embolized tissues were compared between experimental groupand control group,showing no difference of vessel lumen injured and kidneytissues changes after two kinds of embolic agents. Lung tissue didn’t findischemia and necrosis.There were not bletilla Striata microspheres in thepulmonary artery. Conclusions:The experimentation showed that the kidneytissues injured after embolization of two kinds of embolic agents wereequivalent. Bletilla striata microspheres can meet the demand of interventionalradiology.It is a more convenient,safer and effective and medium-long termpotential peripheral embolic agent.
