The Research On Chen Yi’s Poetry And Prose

Chen Yi, as one of the four famous writers in Nanjing in the middle of MingDynasty, is not only an important number of ten literary genius durning Hongzhiperiod, but also an active participant in the retro movement of poetry and proselaunched by “Seven Poets”. Although he was well-born, Chen Yi would not beadmitted to be Jinshi until he was nearly fifty years old. As the saying goes“Wordsspread not because of the quantity but quality”, his works have made a lot ofinnovation in two aspects: the ideological and artistic. He also made gratifyingachievements, he devoted his life to governing the country as well. Although thenumber of his poetry and prose was not so much as those written by Gulin, who wasthe literature leader in Nanjing, and his reputation was not so outstanding. Up to now,research papers involving Chen Yi has always analyzed him as a member of the fourfamous writers in Nanjing on the whole, ignoring the detailed analysis based on theliterature ontology. This paper which selects Chen Yi’s poems and proses as theresearch object will be based on the text written by Chenyi, carding their creativeveins and artistic attainments, and will determine his literature position durning themid-retro camp in the middle of Ming Dynasty in the final chapter of the paper.The paper concludes the following main points: Firstly, as a versatile writer,Chenyi advocated the unique poems and prose theories, which is rooted in the RetroSchool, deriving from Tang dynasty. However, he had learned from a lot ofoutstanding ancient writers which helped him to improve literary theories durning hislife. For example, it is the main innovation point that he put the literary theory of thePre-Qin and the Six Dynasties into retro poems and prose theories, and he has made asignificant contribution to the retro theoretical system that is developed by the Seven-Poets. Secondly, durning his life, the styles of poetry and prose of Chenyi hadexperienced three major changes, and its ideological content was wonderful. And theimitate object of the theory that he is learning had been transferred from N-Song Dynasty to Tang Dynasty under the influence of Gulin. Thirdly, the content of thepoetry written by Chen Yi is comprehensive, and for the art, it integrate the style,literary talent with artistic conception. Besides, the system of his prose organizationis diverse, and the illustrated form is unique, because of thess, it is innovative that thestructure, logic, language and other aspects changed from ancient times to modern,which have made outstanding achievements. All of these aspects have a significantimpact to the scholars during Ming and Qing Dynasties who would evaluate“SevenWings”objectively.
