An Analysis On Style Of Vocabulary In Advanced Teaching Material Of Intensive Reading Of TCSL

This dissertation focuses on comparative analysis on the vocabulary of twosets of textbooks: Boya Chinese and Writing and Truth based on stylistics, usingstatistics and descriptive method. The vocabulary were comparatively analyzed onthe following aspects: stylistic categories of words, domain properties, relationsbetween the part of speech of words and text style, synonyms, vocabularyexercises.What has been found out through the study is as follows:Firstly, the two sets of textbooks both have some awareness of style, especiallyWriting and Truth.Secondly, the two sets of textbooks both have formal written vocabularymostly. Writing and Truth has a large number of ancient words which are usedinfrequently in modern Chinese. Therefore, such words should be selected out ofthe vocabulary. The awareness of vocabulary exercises is outstanding with stylisticchanging practice. Some of vocabulary exercises and language points in BoyaChinese do not meet the requirement of the language style.At the end of this dissertation, some suggestions on vocabulary selection,exercises and teaching are made.
