An Analysis Of Spokespersons’ Speech Acts

With Speech Acts Theory as its theoretical framework and the texts of thespokespersons’ speeches at the regular press conferences of the Ministry of ForeignAffairs of China as its language material, the thesis analyzes the speech acts ofspokespersons.The thesis exams what kind of speech acts are performed, how a speech act isperformed and whether indirect speech acts are performed in the speeches of thespokespersons of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It identifies the features ofthe spokespersons and analyzes the reasons for the performances. It is expected to beof help for improving the quality of spokespersons’ language and offering moreefficient ways to favorable perlocutionary forces.
