This paper conducts statistics analyses of the wrong characters accumulated byHSK Dynamic Essay Corpus on the numbers of strokes, using frequency, charactererror rate, character misused error rate, and character wrongly-written error rate,which is the first time to use all the materials to make comparisons and analyses.After analyzing3748characters filtered through HSK Dynamic Essay Corpus, theobtained wrongly-written-frequency of the overseas students shows significant effectwith the numbers of strokes of Chinese characters. It also shows an obvious link withusing frequency of secondary reference data. This paper also makes horizontalanalysis of learning difficulty of800A-level Chinese characters on their form,pronunciation, and meaning, by making use of “HSK Vocabulary and Chinesecharacters Graded Outline”(Xu Caihua,2010), National TCSL Leader Office, HSKExamination Department, Beijing Language and Culture University Press,1992],which indicates that Chinese characters using frequency and the numbers of characterstrokes, these two elements, should be taken into consideration while compilingChinese Teaching Material, as well as recruitment of Chinese characters that are oftenwrongly written by foreign students. Therefore, the selection of Chinese characters toChinese Teaching Material should be taken into account the writing error rates ofChinese character, then the frequency that the overseas students use them.
