Syntactic Study Of The "Western Mandarin Of The Spoken Language Of Western China"

This article’s object of study is "Western Mandarin of the Spoken Language of Western China", and we summarize and analyze this text material on the basis of previous research, then put forward ideas on the syntax of it. The entire article is divided into five chapters, and the second, third and fourth chapters of which are the core content.The first chapter is the introduction, which include a description of "Western Mandarin of the Spoken Language of Western Chind’ and the author Adam Grainger, the organization and discussion of three articles about "Western Mandarin of the Spoken Language of Western Chind". We can determine what this book record is Chengdu dialect, then giving a brief description of Chengdu dialect. In addition, this part illustrates the method and reason of sorting the text material.The core content is divided into three chapters:the second chapter is the assortment of the phrases in "Western Mandarin of the Spoken Language of Western Chind’,including subordinate structure, verb-object structure, verb-complement structure, subject predicate structure, combined structure, verbal structure, telescopic form structure, prepositional structure and fixed structure. We also discuss some specific structures like negation structure. These special phrases are especially able to show the dialect features and grammatical features of "Western Mandarin of the Spoken Language of Western China’.The third chapter is mainly to classify the sentences of the text material by three ways(Sentence pattern, Sentence category, Sentence Model). In particular, we discuss the compact complex sentences, ambiguous sentences(“好*”),imperative sentence(“看+VP"), which highlight the unique language style of the text material. The fourth chapter is the analysis of function words and word order in the text material. In the part of function words, we targeted analysis’‘把”,“傣”,”得”and so on. In addition to a brief description of word order characteristics, we more particularly pointed out the word order problem about "了”,”没有”,”没得”.The fifth chapter is mainly to extract the characteristics of the text material by diachronic comparison on the basis of previous research. According to the specific grammatical structure we teases out the development and changes of this period of Chengdu dialect.
