The procrastination is a kind of behavior that despite the individual can predict delay will causethe worse results, but still voluntarily delay the scheduled tasks. Procrastination is a complex psychologicalphenomenon formed by each other combined with the three elements of cognition, emotion and behavior.Purpose of this study was to understand the status of the employees’ procrastination behavior in our country,and to study the relationship between the perfectionism, achievement motivation and procrastinationbehavior, which expanded the field of procrastination research, provided a theoretical basis for betterprevention and intervention to procrastination behavior, offered some guidance for staff recruitment,training and career planning.486effective employee subjects were chosen from Henan, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong andother area. The General delay Behavior Scale (GPS), the Chinese version of Frost Perfectionism Scale, andthe Achievement Motivation Scale (AMS) were used to explore the relationships among procrastination,perfectionism, achievement motivation. The main conclusions reached were as follows:(1) On demographic variables, the procrastination behavior of employees was significant differ-ent in age, education, marriage, and work experience. The significant differences in gender, rank, type andnature of work did not exist.(2) There were significant differences for employees with different degree of procrastinationbehavior on perfectionism and achievement motivation. The high-delay group of employees was found tohave significantly higher non-adaptive perfectionism, significantly lower adaptive perfectionism, and lowerachievement motivation than the low-delay group.(3) Employees’ perfectionism and achievement motivation were good predictors ofprocrastination behavior, and mediation effects of achievement motivation between perfectionism andprocrastination was significant. The pursuit of success partially mediated the effects of adaptiveperfectionism on procrastination, while the avoidance of failure partially mediated the effects of adaptiveperfectionism and non-adaptive perfectionism on procrastination.
