Morality has been one of the most important issues in literature, especially in the late19thcenturyRussian literature. Due to the ethnic characteristics and orthodox background, during that period of timeRussian writers felt that it was their duty to carry out the mission of salvation and redemption. There arethree types of literary characters during that period of time; they are saints, evildoers and common sinners,among whom the sinners are the most prominent. The reason for that is the fact that only sinners couldinterpret the value and significance of salvation, and only sinners could represent the intrinsic relationshipbetween crime and punishment.The Russian writer Dostoyevsky discussed crime, penalty and redeems in his novels. His way ofthinking and inquisition which are profound and broad set up a new literature tradition I the Russianliterature. The influence of this tradition is very wide, especially after World War I, World War II and theConcentration Camp Event, it spreads all over the world. In the middle of this current Chinese writers alsoreceived its influence. After the Great Cultural Revolution, among those writers who experienced anddeeply tasted that morality perished and was subverted during the Great Cultural Revolution,comprehended the artistic charm of Dostoyevsky’s works, Tie Ning is one of them. Once she frankly saidthat Dostoyevsky influences her creation.The thesis is dedicated to the disposition of similarities and differences between Dostoyevsky’s“Crime and Punishment” and Tie Ning’s “Big-Bath Woman” by comparative analysis. The thesis is dividedinto three parts.The first part is the inquires on sin. This part inspect the characters in the novels such as Raskolnikov,Sonya, Yin Xiaotiao, Yin Xiaofan, Zhang Wu, Tang Fei In order to represent peculiarities of the good andsin.The second part is the inquires on salvation. This part analyzes the characters’ psychologicaltransformation that originates from crime commitment in Dostoyevsky’s and Tie Ning’s novels.The third part is the connection between culture and literature. It analyzes the natural and intrinsicrelations between Dostoyevsky and Orthodox Christianity and self-examination of Tie Ning’s novels, she ponders ethics question that has been exposed after the Great Cultural Revolution. The thesis also expoundsthe social practical significance introducing the notion of crime, morality and the influence of Christianityupon Chinese literature.
