Reading plays a key role in English learning, which is the important way for studentsto obtain the language knowledge and develop other language skills. American linguistCarrell (1988) mentioned in the Interactive Approaches to Second Language Reading“formany learners, reading is the most important of the four language skills, especially in theEnglish as a second language or foreign language learning.”Teaching English readingeffectively directly relates to the quality of English teaching. In our country, English hasbecome an important part of each stage education teaching. At present, the languagelearning of a younger age has become an international trend of education, which makes kidseducation, kindergarten training school become the focus of attention.Schema theory is a kind of cognitive psychology theory. In its opinion, the readingprocess is a update process that reader interprets the existing schemata and text materials. Itis meaningful to guide the foreign language teaching. German philosopher Kant put forwardthe concept of the schema in nineteenth Century. It stated the schema stored in people’smind, the past experience of an abstract generalization of the recognition, which has thecommon characteristics of these similar extracted, to help people understand the learning ofnew knowledge.The students of the kindergarten school have weak foundation. We need a correcttheory to lead the English teaching to attract their interest. While studying the schematheory seriously, the author combines the teaching practice, designing the appropriateteaching activities for the kindergarten students, to stimulate students’schemata, to developstudents’interest in learning, to guide students to establish good study habits, to acquire acertain amount of learning skills, and to coordinate the practical difficulties betweenteachers and students in teaching process.In this paper, we have focused the use of schema theory in the kindergarten Englishreading teaching by literature, questionnaire survey and the experimental method.According to the new curriculum standards, analysis of the current status of English readingteaching, based on reading theory and schema theory, we carry out the experiment about English reading teaching in kindergarten school. Through questionnaire survey and analysisof schema theory, get to know whether the teaching experiment is reasonable and effectiveor not. Through the experimental group and control group’s pre-test and post-test of dataanalysis, the post-test average score of experimental group is 27.92, significantly higherthan the pre-test 16.02. The student’s reading scores have improved significantly.The experiment shows that the use of schema theory in English reading teaching inkindergarten training school is very useful. It can effectively improve students’interest inEnglish learning, and further improve students’English reading ability and practicalapplication. We hope that the schema theory can be used in daily English reading teaching,effectively enhancing the quality of the teachers and students and promoting thedevelopment of the state’s pre-school education.
