English reading plays an indispensable part in English learning.During tends of the current curriculum reform,English reading teaching has also received exceptionally attention.However,most students’ English reading ability in some secondary vocational colleges still has not been improved.Because of the students’ poor knowledge foundation,they have not formed a good English learning attitude and English reading teaching in many secondary vocational schools is still dominated by traditional translation method,which make students’ reading scores worse.Schema theory emphasizes the importance of students’ cognitive structure in language learning.Nowadays,schema theory is widely used in English reading teaching in high schools.But there are not many studies applied in secondary vocational schools.According to the situation,this thesis puts forward the teaching mode of English reading under the guidance of schema theory in secondary vocational schools,which attempts to answer the following two questions:Can schema theory help students change their English reading attitudes?Can schema theory help students improve their reading ability?The experiment lasts nearly 16 weeks.It is designed to see the feasibility and validity of schema theory applied to the reading teaching in secondary vocational schools.The participants are chosen from the grade one in Pingquan Secondary Vocational School.Before the experiment,there is a test which is used to select two classes,in which class students almost have the same mean scores.Then the pre-test and pre-questionnaire are given to both class.During the experiment,36 students in EC were received the English reading teaching method guided by schema theory,while 41 students in CC were received the traditional method.After the experiment,post-questionnaire and post-test were given to collect experimental data.SPSS is used to analyze these data.Finally,an interview is following to see students’ attitudes towards new method in EC.The results show:Schema theory can help students change their English reading attitudes.Schema theory can help students improve their reading ability.Therefore,it can be concluded that the English reading teaching method under the guidance of schema theory is effective in secondary vocational schools.
