Purpose:To understand the status of medical college students’ career maturity;To explore the influence factors of medical college students’ career maturity;To research the function of career planning programs to improve the status of the medicalcollege students’ career maturity.Object:Survey research: The students of a total number of855from24classes were randomlyselected from freshman to senior year of Shanxi Medical University, using stratified clusterrandom sampling method.Intervention study: The test group was40undergraduate students volunteered toparticipate in career planning courses and met the study requirements. The40students of thesame sex, grade, professional, who met the study requirements, were select as a control group.Methods:1. QuestionnaireIn this study,855students in Shanxi Medical University were administered questionnaireswhich are "College students career maturity scale ","College students career decision makingself-efficacy scale "," Internality, powerful others and opportunities scale "to preliminarilyanalyze the impact factors of career maturity degrees.2. Experimental InterventionThe40students of voluntary registration who meet the conditions were regarded as theexperimental group and the other40students were selected as homologous control group. Theexperimental group were taken the intervention of a period of eight career planning courses,120-180minutes each time, the control group without intervention.3. MeasurementMeasure the two groups before, after and one month after the career planningcourse,using "College students career maturity scale ","College students career decisionmaking self-efficacy scale "," Internality, powerful others and opportunities scale ".Use ofmethods such as repeated measurements for statistical analysis of the data.Results:1. Survey findings:The total score of Medical students’ career maturity is112.93±13.17; with an average scoreof each question3.32.The overall score is in the general level. There was no significantdifference of the total score of Career maturity degree in gender, while there are significant differences in the professional, the year, the only child or not (F=13.76,P<0.01;t=2.53,p<0.05;F=20.88,p<0.01). Freshman’ career maturity scores were significantly higher than othergrades, senior minimum; the only child’ career maturity scores were significantly higher thannon-only child; clinical professionals’ career maturity score were significantly higher thannon-clinical medical professional and non-medical professionals. Medical students’ careermaturity and career decision making self-efficacy, locus of control are significantly correlated.2. Intervention Study Results:Measured the indicators of pretest, immediate posttest and delay posttest by repeatedmeasures analysis of variance and the results display: the career maturity of the test group andthe control group has significant difference among treatment (F=4.016, P<0.05); career maturityhas trends over time (F=29.798, P<0.01), and the role of the time factor is different withsubgroups (F=31.650, P<0.01).The results of multiple regression analysis display: the internal factor (immediate post-test-pretest) change, the pretest level of career goals, groups, changes of internal control, changesof forces others, changes of selecting the target, the pretest level of career self-confidence affectthe change of career maturity before and after the career planning course(R2=71.7, P=0.015).Conclusion:Medical students’ career maturity is on the general level. It was affected by the factors ofcareer decision-making self-efficacy, locus of control and so on.Career planning course is an effective means of intervention. Career planning courses canimprove the career decision-making self-efficacy; improve the locus of control, which helps toimprove the medical students ’ career maturity.
