As a practical style of modern English, The English for Newspapers and Magazines (ENM) is featured with popularity, enjoyment and refinement. Reading newspapers and magazines has been an essential way to acquire advanced technology and culture all around the world. However, the coined words, slang and analogic words are still a huge obstacle for domestic readers, especially in popular science and technology. Based on the knowledge of essential translation theory and ENM, this thesis deeply analyzes three pieces of news in The Economist. The lingual obstacles are cleared after several translation methods and theories are applied, and the translation script is basically faithful and fluent. In the conclusion, the author summarizes how to practice the translation techniques. The analysis and conclusion are ready to be criticized and referred, for the sake of domestic development and flourish of the Chinese translation on popular science and technology.
