An Error Analysis On Vietnamese Students’ Learning Chinese Position Orientational Metaphor

Space and time are two concepts that humanity has known. Almost our activitiesin life are related to the time and space. In Chinese position system,“前、后、里、外” are four positions to describe the space meaning. In facts of using language,people often use these positions to describe the time meaning. Its mean that we havechanged space position “前、后、里、外”, namely a metaphor created.Thesis will analyze Orientational metaphor“前、后、里、外in Chinese and“front, behind, inside, outside” in Vietnamese, and their metaphorical method. Afterthat, Thesis will find out the similarities and differences between them and explaincause of them. Since then, in terms of theoretical significance, this thesis will becomethe basis of metaphorical position between two languages.This thesis consists of six sections. The first section is introduction Vietnameseand Chinese position as well as the predicate in Vietnamese and Chinese as well asthe current research on them. The second section is about definition andcharacteristics of position in two languages as well as a brief introduction the conceptof metaphorical position. The third section is comparison “前、后、里、外inChinese with “front, behind, inside, outside” in Vietnamese. The fourth section iscarries out the investigation and the analysis and then summarizes the commonmistakes and the causes in the process of learning this type of word class. In the firthchapter, the writer gives some recommendations and then summarizes the maincontents of the thesis in the last chapter, and lists some topics left open.The finallysection is that author summarizes main contents of this thesis as well as theshortcomings and prospects of this research.
