Teachers’ Cultural Differences And Adaptation In Teaching Chinese Overseas As A Second Language

Nowadays, leaning Chinese has become a hot trend throughout the world. More and more Chinese teachers go to other countries to teach Chinese, hence it is necessary for them to adapt themselves under a diversified atmosphere. Thailand is one of the countries which regard leaning Chinese as a popularity. Due to the support of Thailand’s government, especially princess Shi Lintong, the Chinese teaching in Thailand developed rapidly. Undoubtedly, it is a certainty that a large number of Chinese teachers are sent to Thailand to teach Chinese. However, those who teach Chinese in other countries are confronted with problems because of the different culture which lead to the difficulties of cross-cultural communication. How to realize the cultural differences in cross-cultural communication and how to exchange the teaching ideas with local teachers in spite of their cultural differences, which is an essential and key point to the widespread of Chinese culture.In this paper, which mainly describes the difference between China and Thailand in the aspects of language and culture that influences the living and working conditions of those Chinese teachers who teach Chinese in Thailand, which also affects the cross-cultural communication. The aim of writing this paper is to explore the difference between China’s and Thailand’s culture by the analysis of the concrete phenomenon, thereby, those Chinese teachers who teach Chinese in Thailand have the approach to solve the problems concerning the cross-cultural communication.As the improvement of relationship between China and Thailand, it is essential for Chinese teachers to make a good knowledge about the difference between the culture of China and Thailand, tolerating and understanding each other. Meanwhile, according to the cultural difference, Chinese teachers could get the ways of how to rise their awareness when communicate with foreign countries and improve their ability of adaption in different atmosphere to reduce the misunderstandings to absorb into the local culture.
