Chinese homophones are phenomena that we often encounter in communication and reading. Complex relations between the pronunciation and meanings are one of characteristics of a character that Chinese homophones exactly reflect.Native speakers often read the wrong tones of Chinese homophones.Moreover,for foreign students. Chinese homophones make them headache.Chinese homophones objectively exist and foreign students can not avoid them when they learn chinese.We should help foreign students to recognize characteristics of Chinese homophones and to analyze the relations between the pronunciations and meanings of Chinese homophones. We should try to find effective methods of learning Chinese homophones to help foreign students to learn better Chinese. From the point of view of foreign students,the thesis investigate Chinese homophones’situations in The Outline of Graded Vocabular for HSK (The outline for short).We use test questionnaire to check how well foeign students learn Chinese homophones. We put forward some suggestions of teaching Chinese homophones in teaching Chinese as a foreign language on the base of quantitative statistics and qualitative analysis. This Paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction, in which an overview of Chinese homophones and the existing research results of Chinese homophones are introduced briefly,as well as main content and research methods of the thesis.The second chapter introduces Chinese homophones’situations in The Outline.We discribe and analyze t Chinese homophones in number, pronunciations and meanings.The third chapter is questionnaire.There are high misread rate in chinese homophones from the results of the questionnaire.There are two reasons.The first is by the high and low frequency of the use of a pronunciation.The second is small difference between the pronunciations or meanings of chinese homophones.Based on the statiscal analysis of the second and third chapter, the fourth chaper analyzes the types of Chinese homophones which appear in The Outline and putforward some teaching methods. Fistly, teachers should emphasis on phonetics teaching. Secondly, teachers should to strengthen the link between the pronunciations and meanings of Chinese homophones. Thirdly,teachers should grasp the principles of practicality in teaching.The last of the paper is a conclusion to summarize the full-text.
