A Study On The Limit Scope Adverb"dan(单)","guang(光)","jin(仅)","zhi(只)"

This paper takes the limit scope adverb "dan(单)","guang(光)","jin(仅)","zhi(只)" in modern Chinese as the objects of study. Weanalyze comprehensively four questions about them, which are theirdistribution, their co-occurrence orders with other adverbs, theirsemantic orientation and the scalar and non-scalar usage. Althoughthese four words have general characteristics, they still have their owncharacteristics in the above aspects. Therefore, we will focus on thesame points and differences between them in order to deepen theunderstanding of these adverbs.Except the foreword and the conclusion, the paper altogetherdivides into four chapters. The concrete arrangement is as follows:First, we analyze their similarities and differences from the syntaxangle, which includes the second and third chapters in the paper. Inthe chapter two, we give a full detail of their distribution in the syntaxaspect. And then, according to the cases collected from the data, wediscuss the question about the co-occurrence orders of these fourwords and other adverbs. In addition, we make explanation with theproximity principle and the linear order principle.Second, we analyze "dan(单)","guang(光)","jin(仅)","zhi(只)" fromthe point of view of semantic scope. The chapter four is focus on thedescription about their differences on the basis of semantic orientation.Then, in the chapter five, we study the semantic function of"dan(单)","guang(光)","jin(仅)","zhi(只)" in sentences in terms of thefocus sensitivity of operators "dan(单)","guang(光)","jin(仅)","zhi(只)"Besides that, we distinguish operator’ s scalar usage from theirnon-scalar usage, and argue that the operators "dan(单)","guang(光)"have non-scalar usage,"jin(仅)","zhi(只)" have both scalar usage andnon-scalar usage. This is one of important factors which leads to thedifferences between their use.
