Chinese is an analytical language, which has no strict sense of form change, thus the function word that belongs to a significant part of Chinese vocabulary has become important grammatical methods and it has been the key points and difficulties in the field of Chinese research and teaching. In recent years, the researches on the adverbs which lie in the heated topic all over the world have widely and deeply caught researchers’ attentions. And as the "modern Chinese frequency dictionary" compiled by Beijing language and culture university shows, the adverb dou takes the fourth place in the use frequency, next to bu, jiu, ye. What it indicates is that the adverb dou is used in high frequency and wide range.Therefore, the importance of the adverb dou in Chinese teaching and researches is self-evident. However, in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, teachers’ input in teaching and the output from students in learning do not seem that optimistic as expected. In the process of investigating the English-speaking learners’ acquisition of the adverb dou,it is found that they have made many mistakes in using the adverb dou, so there still exist some problems in the part of acquisition and teaching application of the adverb dou. In order to solve such sorts of problems, it is not that enough just with the language sense, but depending more on the researchers’ explorations. And these two indispensable aspects are integral from “detailed analysis of modern Chinese deconstruction” to “descriptive analysis of foreigners’ interlanguage”. Only the comparison is made between the two aspects can we find where the problems really lie. When the “disease root” has been found out, we are able to explain it, and furthermore make use of relevant methods to remedy it. Thus, this topic is selected striving to make more meticulous and penetrating researches on the acquisition of the scope adverb dou by English-speaking learners.The research starts from a perspective of ontology, explaining and describing systematically semantic structures and characteristics of sentence patterns of Chinese scope adverb dou, and under the theory of semantic orientation, make a summary of grammatical conditions of scope adverb dou. Based on semantic characteristics of Chinese scope adverb dou, A test paper has been designed in this paper, which includes three parts: the judgment test; the word order test; the translation test. And the test paper is considered as the researchbasis and investigates the acquisition of scope adverb dou of sixty English-speaking learners.Moreover, according to error analysis theory, interlanguage theory and contrastive theory, we induct error classifications that are often presented by English-speaking learners and analyze reasons and factors involved in error production. Additionally make choices and calculate carefully and sufficiently to test papers collected, then presenting the data proportions in the form of charts visually in order to examine the acquisition order of scope adverb dou of English-speaking learners. Finally put forward teaching suggestions and implications in target on teaching Chinese scope adverb dou in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, hoping to provide references to textbook compositions and promoting the understanding and practical application of such words for Chinese learners, especially for English-speaking learners.
