| As an important component of the splendid traditional Chinese culture, TCM (abbreviation of Traditional Chinese Medicine) has made great contributions to both the health and prosperity of Chinese nation. Due to its remarkable therapeutic and health-preserving effect, over the past few decades TCM has been attracting an increasing attention from all over the world. More and more foreigners come to China to learn it and there has been a huge upsurge in the learning of TCM. In this circumstance, a large number of TCM books need to be translated into English, which is the most widely used language in the world. As we all know, TCM terms are the foundation for foreign TCM learners to master TCM theories, so it is urgent to translate TCM terms into English. However, English translation of TCM terms is in chaotic state:without the guidance of a translation theory and unified translation criteria, different translators translate the same TCM term differently. This chaos prevents foreign TCM learners from understanding TCM theories accurately and makes them confused about TCM.Therefore, this thesis aims at solving this problem under the guidance of Skopostheorie. The author attempts to establish unified criteria and find strategies of TCM term translation guided by translation criterion and three rules (skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule) in Skopostheorie. |
