| In the great trend of economic globalization and political multipolarity, the marvelous achievements during China’s reform and opening-up and socialistic modernization drive have been bringing China to an ever-elevating international status. The whole world is eagerly coming to understand more about China, who, in turn, exerts great efforts to be better understood and admitted by the global community. In order to realize the desired effect, booming is the C-E translation of publicity materials, among which, political publicity is vitally important as it informs the West of China’s latest situation and our Party’s general tasks, fundamental policies and strategic guidelines. This importance has attracted numerous outstanding scholars and translators to devote themseves in C-E political publicity, which greately contribulte to the formation of this thesis. And this thesis is conducted from a new perspective, Eco-translatology. With its proper guidance, this thesis can be slightly different from the previous studies.Eco-translatology was initiated by Chinese scholar, Hu Gengshen, on the3rd Symposium of Asian Translators in2001, and since then, it has been burgeoning and maturing rapidly. Equipped with the natural principle of "survival the fittest", Eco-translatology answers the questions of "what translation is","how to translate" and "translated by who", which make it unique. Eco-translatology, on the one hand, emphasizes the center status of the translator, assuming translation is the production of the translator’s adaptation and selection, and on the other hand, rationalizes the translator’s subjectivity, maintaining that the translator has to respect the certain translation eco-environment.The primary standard of publicity is to introduce China, authentically (without over-or under-emphasis), richly and colorfully (covering the most comprehensive possible aspects of China and Chinese people), and lively, which is exactly what the Government Work Report (shortened as the Report) caters to. It is highly informative and touches every aspect of the socialistic modernization construction with Chinese characteristics. It summarizes both the achievement and defects of the past years and puts forward thorough plans for the next year and years beyond. Therefore, the present thesis selects the Government Work Report delivered by Premier Wen Jiabao at the11th National People’s Congress in2011for a case study.Eco-translatology is widely utilized to explicate phenomena both in literature and non-literature translation. And the thesis tries to prove that Eco-translatology is inclusive and thorough in explaining phenomena on translating the Report and, in light of Eco-translatology, and concludes some proper instructions in translating political publicity. It is developed in5parts. The introduction part introduces the object, study sample, theoretical basis and the organization of the thsis. The first chapter defines Eco-translatology, informs us of the background for its formation, and unfolds the basic concepts involved and studies under its guidance. The second chapter introduces political publicity,2011Government Work Report and its features as well. The third chapter provides detailed examples in a bid to verify that Eco-translatology is well reflected and respected in the translation of the Report. Furthermore, the thesis summarizes four guidelines for political translation and three evaluation standards in the conclusion part under the direction of the Eco-translatology. |
