In Chinese-English consecutive interpretation, note-taking should play an auxiliaryrole, supplementing the mental note-taking and visualisation process before delivery. Thispaper investigates mistakes made during a Chinese-English interpretation at a mockconference,“2012Shanghai Forum.” This paper explores the origins of these mistakes, through a comparison of the original speech transcript, the notes, and the transcript of theinterpretation. The effect of target language as opposed to source language as the languageof notation is investigated. The conclusion then offers a series of tactics to rectify andprevent these mistakes and improve Chinese-English consecutive interpretation.
