| Constructivism is a psychological theory that has developed quickly and been applied widely in language teaching and learning in recent years. Constructivism focuses on the center role of students without neglecting the teacher’s role in teaching. In constructivist view, a teacher is not only the initiator and inculcator of knowledge, but also the helper, the promoter for students to construct knowledge structure under certain teaching environment. The traditional teacher-centered teaching model in college English teaching restricts students’enthusiasm in learning, which results in low teaching efficiency. Constructivism has been put forward a challenge for college English teaching model that it can provide all kinds of opportunities for students to experience and participate in English activities so that they can construct their own knowledge structure.This paper does a research on college English teaching model from the perspective of constructivism. Two classes are involved in the two-year period teaching experimental study, one is instructed with the traditional teaching model, the other as the experimental group with the constructivist teaching model, and finally, some conclusions are made. The result of the study indicates that constructivist teaching theory is practical and useful in college English teaching. The constructivist theory of teaching has played a significant guiding role in improving and enhancing the college teaching efficiency as well as the teaching standard. |
