Currently, many students in junior college do not have a very strong grammar foundation, and they are unclear and ambiguous about many grammatical phenomena, which affects the students’entire English language proficiency. In view of this situation, the author tries to combine constructivist theory (It first appeared in philosophy and psychology, and swept the world in the eighties of the last century, which believes knowledge is to be constructed by the learners on the basis of the original knowledge, not passively accepted) and college grammar teaching, and constructivist teaching philosophy and teaching methods are applied to the specific grammar teaching to improve the students’overall English ability.Research questions of this thesis are the following:1. What is the effect of constructivst methods applied in the concrete English grammar teaching?2. Compared to the traditional teaching methods, what are the advantages and disadvantages of constructivist teaching methods?3. As a teacher, what is the attitude towards the English grammar teaching?During the four-month experiment on two classes of sophomores in junior college, the author finds the differences bewteen the experimental class using constructivist teaching methods and the control class using traditional methods. The experimental class improve their scores far better than control class. Experimental class also significantly change in classroom performance, such as increasing learning initiative, enhancing cooperation awareness, ameliorating learning methods and improving learning efficiency. Through the analysis of the survey, the students from the experimental class gradually accept constructivist teaching philosophy and methods, and naturally apply them to the usual learning. After analyzing the experiment, the author sums up the advantages of constructivism in the following aspects:creating authentic language activities to stimulate the students’ learning enthusiasm; training the students’cooperation by constructing the grammar knowledge with others together; improving the study efficiency by systematizing the grammar knowledge; enhancing learning self-confidence by process and dynamic evaluation. But there still exsit some limitations, such as wasting time, sometimes not completing the teaching tasks on time and putting forward very high requirements for the teachers to design learning activities. Etc.This paper consists of five parts. The first chapter introduces the research background and significance. The second chapter is about literature review. The third chapter is about research methods, introducing research subjects, tools and process. The fourth chapter is about data collection and analysis. Through the discussion of the data, the author analysizes constructivist teaching methods are efficient in concrete English grammar teaching. The fifth chapter is about the findings, research limitations and suggestions for future research.
