Self-handicapping is a non-adaptive defensive behavior strategy. Take prior tothe achievement of individual defensive behavior to protect self. Such as stay up allnight before the exam, and reduce efforts, adverse performance in order to avoid orevade failure, negative emotional experience.Although self-handicapping behavior temporarily maintain self-esteem, buthabitual self-handicapping will lead to a low sense of accomplishment and lead tomore self-handicapping, creating a vicious cycle. Self-esteem as a core of personality,evaluative and emotion is its main character, ability and value of its basic dimensions.Therefore, to explore the mechanism of action between the deep-seated and tohelp researchers to develop effective self-handicapping interventionsIn this study, starting from the self-esteem stability, to explore the relationshipbetween self-esteem and self-esteem stability and the mechanism of self-handicapping.Further experimental research, and proven self-esteem level, self-esteem stability ofself-handicapping behavior differences in different stressful situations and emotionalarousal.The results show that:1, the revised "Youth Self-handicapping Scale has good reliability and validity;2, self-esteem stability and self-esteem is low and not significantly correlatedwith that self-esteem stability is relative to distinguish it from the personalityvariables of self-esteem level;3, the level of self-esteem, self-esteem stability and self-handicapping significantdifferences in the demographic variables of gender, grade, school type, whetheralone health;4, self-esteem level, self-esteem stability and self-handicapping was significantlycorrelated and can effectively predict self-handicapping, self-esteem stability betweenthe self-esteem and self-handicapping has a regulatory role;5, Pressure situational predicted effect on self-handicapping was not significant,emotionality predicted effect on self-handicapping was significantly, self-esteem stability predicted effect on self-handicapping was significantly, self-esteem andself-esteem stability interact to predict self-handicapping behavior, emotionalarousal, self-esteem and self-esteem stability interact to predict self-handicappingbehavior.
