Following the fast economic development of China, all eyes are on China now, so the people who come to study Chinese are increasing. South Korea and China are neighboring countries, so the trade and the culture between those two countries is becoming closer and closer. Among the foreign students in China, the Korean students are a big proportion of all. In other words, when teaching Chinese to foreigners, understanding the specialties of the Korean students is very important. The main research in this thesis is how to teach the Korean students the past tense in Chinese. First, discussing the characteristics of the past tense in the two languages-Korean and Chinese; the distinguishing feature in the Korean is the prominent "tense", and in Chinese-its the progressiveness of the "aspect". Secondly, analyzing the difficulties the Korean students encounter when studying the past tense in Chinese. And a suggestion to the teaching method:different suggestions to teaching using the notion of "timing" and not using it, and at the same time giving suggestions to sorting out the different ways of expressing the concrete past form. And at last proposing two methods of teaching the Korean students:writing a diary and telling stories.Through this research I hope the errors that Korean students make with "了", will decrease, to help them express themselves freely, when using the past tense in Chinese, will make the acquiring of the Chinese language effective. At the same time, I hope that this research will help the Chinese teachers who are not very well acquainted with the Korean language, to help them better understand the problems with acquiring the Chinese language for the Korean students and I hope that it will be of use to the Chinese teachers when teaching.
